03-鲸奇之旅 Ocean Voyagers

Kell is growing fast-putting on a hundred pounds a day. . . and each pound takes a gallon of his mother's milk.

Her milk is rich and as thick as heavy cream, but feeding underwater isn't easy. . .

Kell must curl his tongue into a funnel. And then Mara lets down the milk into his mouth.

Nothing's as ravenous as a baby whale. He can even fill up as they swim.

Eventually he has to breathe.

His mouth is so full the milk is escaping. For now the little whale is full and satisfied.

As for Mara, she must survive on her reserves of blubber, the same blubber that she turns into milk, for her baby.

Before he is weaned, Kell will consume a quarter of her body weight ten tons of her.

Their time here will allow him to grow and build up strength before their first long migration together.

In water, sound travels far and fast.
