TV Ramakrishna knows how a good education

can open doors to a better life.

Growing up poor, he was lucky to have caring

adults around him who helped him pursue an education.

He eventually came to the United States,

received his doctorate degree in civil engineering.

When he retired, he returned to Bangalore with his wife Vijaya

and in 1998 founded the nonprofit Sahasra Deepika foundation for education.

His daughter, Sarva Rajendra, serves as president.

Sahasra Deepika is a Sanskrit word that means a thousand lights.
