Hit back. If you hit back at someone, you're responding to an attack with an attack.
After the paper ran a false story on her, she hit back with a lawsuit.
If you hit somebody up, you're asking them for something.
" Hey, can I hit you up for a dollar? "
Or, " if you ever need anything, hit me up."
That is, if you ever need anything, just ask.
