- These robots are helping save bees' lives.

(pensive music) Beewise,an Israeli startup, has created a machine that houses up to two million bees and helps lower the risk of colony collapse by monitoring them for disease, pests and other hazards.

- So the robotic hive or the robotic mechanism is called the Bee Home, and that Bee Home, essentially,we haven't changed anything with beekeeping, all we're doing is we're carrying out beekeeping just like a beekeeper would do in the field, except we're using robotic hands and computer vision and cameras.

That's all.

Anything a beekeeper would do in the field, the robotic system can mimic.

Inspecting hives, applying treatment, applying medicine, harvesting the honey, splitting hives, combining hives, anything a beekeeper would do,the robotic mechanism can mimic, and do it more effectively without ever getting tired, without going on vacation, and without complaining.

- It allows beekeepers to work remotely, using real-time reports and climate controls in the hive.

The robot also automatically harvests honey when it's ready.

And the entire system is powered by solar energy.

Bee populations around the world are struggling due to factors, such as climate change, pesticide use, disease and pests.
