Everything from giant dinosaur bones to delicate butterflies to pickled animals, like this stonefish.

The most venomous in the world.

But less than 1% of it's on display.

The rest is tucked away in what's called collections, hidden behind the scenes.

It costs more than $100 million to run the museum.

And it's mostly funded with taxpayer dollars.

So why does the US government spend so much money on things that most Americans will never see?
