This is Everyday Grammar. I'm Lucija.

And I'm Kaveh. You know, Lucija, I'm not sure if I want to talk about grammar right now.

I'm hungry. Do we have stuff to snack on? Kaveh, you just gave me a great idea!

What, do you want to get some food? No, you reminded me that we gave a lot to talk about!

Like. . . dinner? No! ADJECTIVAL INFINITIVES!

ADJECTUVAL INFINITIVES are infinitives that act like adjectives in a sentence. An infinitive is the base form of the verb.

Sometimes the word to appears before the base form. Infinitives like TO TALK or TO SAY often modify nouns that don't have clear meanings.

Such as. . . ? THING, STUFF and A LOT are three of the most common examples.

How do infinitives modify these nouns? Think back to when we started filming, you said "Do we have stuff to snack on?"

Yeah, I did! Well, STUFF doesn't have a clear meaning.
