Listening Test 1 section3

[00:00:00] That is the end of section 2. [00:00:04] Section3 Section 3(1) You will hear a student asking an English person about the differences between Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

[00:00:21] Hiro:Excuse me sir, my name is Hiro, and I noticed that your rucksack has a British flag patch on it. [00:00:31] May I ask you if you are British?

[00:00:34] Liam:My rucksack? Oh, yes the union Jack. [00:00:39] Well, that's bit of a joke actually.

[00:00:44] However, yes I am English. Why do you want to know? [00:00:49] Hiro:I am doing a report on the issue of identity in the U. K.

[00:00:54] I want to know how people from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland see themselves. [00:01:04] What I mean to say is, being that all four of the countries are part of the United Kingdom, how different could they possibly be?

[00:01:17] Liam:Well, they are nothing at all alike, really. Culture, ancestry and language all differ quite considerably from region to region. [00:01:30] Hiro:How so? Liam:Let's start with England.

[00:01:34] The U. K. has a population of about 59 million. [00:01:39] Of those people, about 49 million live in England.

[00:01:44] London is the capital and a very metropolitan city. [00:01:49] About a fourth of all those living in England reside in London.

[00:01:55] It is the most multicultural city in the United Kingdom. [00:02:00] It has many immigrants from all over the world.

[00:02:05] London is very exciting, and there is always something to do day or night. [00:02:11] The influence that London has on the rest of England makes the capital city unlike the rest of the U. K.
