Out in the grove hangs a hawk-repeller. It is the spread-eagled body of the last hawk shot, strung between two poles, with a gin bottle hung at its neck. It did not have to be a gin bottle.
And there's a really rich interplay, if you look at the history of the 19th century women's movement between these two poles, because they're by no means that far apart.
