Now, more research on this topic definitely needs to be done, but the basic idea is that we as humans have a slightly positive electric charge on our bodies, and the Earth has a slightly negative electric charge.
For any interaction to happen, these two protons, each has a positive electric charge and so they would repel each other, so you got to get them close enough together.
Now remember back how every neuron in your body has a membrane that keeps positive and negative charges separated across its boundaries, like a battery sitting around waiting for something to happen?
There was also the problem of how protons with their positive charges could bundle together inside the nucleus without blowing themselves and the rest of the atom apart.
