Congress has obstructed efforts to create a more straightforward visa for agricultural workers that would let foreign workers stay longer in the U.S. and change jobs within the industry.
It's the key to whether individual farmers can provide for their families, face unemployment and ultimately whether whole communities stay on the land or trek to the cities.
It's quite a nice idea to drive the length of the country and then you can see the interesting farming that is taking place, in particular in the South Island.
