Mencius was a thinker whose teachings were very similar to those of Confucius.

Not to mention other historical figures, within the Confucian school itself, there were Mencius and Xunzi in the pre-Qin period, and Zhu Xi, Cheng Yi, and Cheng Hao in the Southern Song Dynasty.

Mencius says, " Anyone who does not recognize the handsomeness of Zidu must have no eyes." That saying referred to this man.

孟子曰：“不识子杜之美者，非无眼”。这句话就是指这个人。

" My lord, " Mengzi began, " You like battle, yes? Let me use the battlefield to show you."

“大人，”孟子说道，“您喜欢打仗是吧？我就拿战场给您看看。”

By telling this story, the wise man Mengzi wanted people to understand that they should respect the laws of nature.
