The Army Air Corps wanted red and white for the same reason but the consulting architect of the Golden Gate Bridge liked the color of the primer used to coat the steel.
So instead I've created my own and I've used an eye primer with a loose red pigment mixed into it and it creates that same more waxy texture that the 30s cream rouges are.
During the annealing step, we cool everything down to around 55 degrees Celsius, and this allows the primers to bind to their complementary sequences on the single stranded DNA.
