For example, the diversity of zooplankton is immeasurable.

Here, your light-sensitive eyes take in a buffet of small crustaceans and gelatinous zooplankton.

Polyps look a bit like underwater flowers, using their tentacles to catch and eat zooplankton.

Yes, the zooplankton – tiny little animals in the sea – mistake the microplastics for food and eat them.

Despite their colossal size, they feed on tiny creatures such as krill and zooplankton.

So first, you really need to appreciate how tiny zooplankton are.

In contrast, while heading south, the birds appear to stop off in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, where they indulge on fish and zooplankton, preparing themselves for their long journey ahead.

We have echo sounders to detect zooplankton and fish, acoustic Doppler current profilers for measuring the currents in the water, wet-lab fluorometers for measuring chlorophyll and organic matter, and a few other specialist sensors as well.

Then, a few million years ago, changing ocean currents brought tons of nutrients up from the depths, which fueled huge, localized phytoplankton blooms, which in turn attracted enormous concentrations of scrumptious zooplankton.

Much of the rest is unattached algae, known as phytoplankton, and tiny animals, known as zooplankton.

Productive areas attract zooplankton, and that in turn attracts fish.

In a 2017 study out of Sweden, researchers exposed a zooplankton called Daphnia magna to a bunch of plastic nanoparticles.

We're already finding that there's a lot of microplastics in the sea and that some of these microplastics are actually being ingested by the zooplankton that live there.

For instance, scientists studying zooplankton in the Arctic saw that during the long, dark winter months, zooplankton responded to moonlight instead.

Algae need light, so must live near the surface—as must the zooplankton and other animals that need the phytoplankton.

It happens from the smallest animals to some of the largest and the most abundant, in terms of biomass, migrators are typically small fish like bristlemouths and lantern fish that are following the vertical migrations of the zooplankton.

Researchers found that zooplankton move up and down in the water by as much as 200 feet just from clouds passing overhead.

The sonar was actually detecting huge masses of tiny animals known as zooplankton ascending from the depths to the surface every night and returning down again.

Creatures like zooplankton don't even have what you would consider to be ears.

They say, oh boy, that zooplankton… just don't even bring it up with me.
