普林斯顿大学举办了一场虚拟的毕业典礼,庆祝2020年高级学位获得者的成就。普林斯顿大学校长 Christopher L. Eisgruber 在虚拟毕业典礼上发表了演讲。

CHRISTOPHER L. EISGRUBER: Welcome to the 273rd Princeton University Commencement.

This virtual event is not the ceremony that any of us would have wished for to recognize and celebrate the graduating seniors of the great Princeton University Class of 2020 and the recipients of advanced degrees from Princeton's Graduate School.

We are, however, happy to have an opportunity today to mark this momentous occasion with our graduating students and with the family members and friends who have supported them throughout their Princeton journeys.

Before we begin, I want to take a moment to offer my deepest sympathy to those who have lost family members or friends to COVID-19.

You are in our thoughts and our hearts at this difficult time.

I also want to recognize that all of our graduating students have lost something irreplaceable as a result of the pandemic.

As I have said before, I wish that we could give back the special experiences that all of you have missed, and I regret very much that we cannot.

Let me also extend warm greetings to the families and friends of our graduating students.

Your support has been indispensable to the success of the students who graduate today.

I hope they are applauding you right now, and as I am myself the father of a college senior graduating this year at another university, believe me, I know how much you were looking forward to celebrating your student's success in person and with trumpets blowing.
