Hi guys. In this video, we're going to look at the /eə/ sound.
It's in words like "hair" and "their".
This is a diphthong, which means it's a combination of two vowel sounds produced within the same syllable.
This one is made up of the /e/ sound and the schwa: /ə/.
Remember that for all diphthongs, your mouth moves.
Here your mouth moves from the /e/ to the /ə/, so your lips are stretched out a bit at first: /e/, and then your mouth relaxes: /ə/. /eə/ /eə/.
Say it after me: /eə/ /eə/.
Here are some words with this sound: there, rare, bear, chair.
And now a sentence: There's a rare bear on the chair.
I hope that was helpful.
