During a two-and-a half-hour sirloin steak dinner in Buenos Aires, US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart discussed their differences on trade

that had led them in past months to exchange significant retaliatory tariffs. President Xi Jinping noted it had been a long time since the two at last met and a lot of things have taken place.

Only with cooperation between us can we serve the interest of world peace and prosperity. Trump predicted his relationship with Xi would lead to a breakthrough.

And I think at some point we are going to end up doing something is great to China and great to the United States. The Buenos Aires meeting resulted in a truce in their trans-pacific trade war

with both countries agreeing to halt additional tariffs on each other for 90 days while they talk, and China is pledging to boost purchases of products from the United States.
