This belief originated when researchers found a correlation between individuals snacking late at night and having a BMI that categorizes them as obese.

When the word got out, health nuts began skipping that late night snack like it was leg day!

But is eating late at night, specifically 8pm, really going to make you gain weight?

One theory is that your metabolism slows down when you're asleep.

With a slower metabolism, fewer calories are being burned,

Thus the calories you eat right before bed would not be burned off as much as they would be while you're awake.

Although the science seems pretty sound, recent studies have shown that metabolism changes very little, if at all, while you are asleep.

While asleep, your body still functions in many ways.
