[00:00:00] Unit 2 Letters, faxes and memos 2. 1 B-2 Mr W: Ah, Maria, I wanted to see you, um. . . did I tell you that we're starting up the English classes again? [00:00:13] Maria: Oh, are you? Great, good. Where?

[00:00:15] Mr W: Er. . . in the training centre, hopefully. We're getting Mr Roberts in again from ELS. [00:00:22] So could you tell your people and let me have a list of names by. . . um. . . let's say wednesday?

[00:00:28] Maria: Yes, yes. . . um. . . Last time there was a bit of misunderstanding about the books they needed. . . um. . . who was going to pay for them. [00:00:37] Mr W: Oh, really? Well, no problem this time, we'll provide the books.

[00:00:42] But they will have to do some homework outside work, make sure they realize that. [00:00:46] Um. . . or else there'll probably be some problems.

[00:00:49] Er. . . there'll be two classes, by the way: an intermediate class and an advanced one. [00:00:54] But there will be a limit in each of the classes of. . . probaby about twelve.

[00:00:58] Maria: Oh, really, a limit of twelve? [00:01:00] Ah, well, what if there are more people wanting to come?

[00:01:04] I mean, I can think of at least eight just in my department alone. [00:01:08] Um. . . how will you decide who can attend?

[00:01:10] Mr W: Er. . . mm, good point. Er. . . I think we'll have to play that one by ear really. [00:01:17] Maria: OK, well how about running another class. . .

[00:01:19] And that is the end 2. 1 B-2. [00:01:22] " Well, I use the back of an envelope or a beer mat." 'Um. . . well, I usually sit back for a few moments and. . . um. . . think about what I'm going to do.

[00:01:32] And. . . well, then I just start writing. ' 'I write on a word processor and I don't make notes before starting. ' 'I write an outline of the letter and then do a final draft. ' 'Er. . . I make notes on a large sheet of scrap paper. ' 'Well, I just dictate it to my secretary and, well, let her sort out the details. ' 'I do it all on my computer. Er. . . it's easy, I start by putting down the main headings, and then, well, start writing. I edit the document as I go along. ' 'I sit for a few moments and then think about the person I'm writing to. [00:02:05] Then I make notes before I actually start writing.
