We are gonna tell you a story today. Hansel and Gretel's story, one of the most popular tales collected by the Grimm brothers.
You probably all know this tale already, and even tho the story of the chocolate house is quite macabre itself, the real story behind it is even creepier.
Let's start with one of the many versions of the fable there is out there, and at the end, we will explain the real story. Once upon a time, a long long time ago, in a far off land,
there was a woodcutter who lived with his two kids, Hansel and Gretel, and their step mother. It was a very poor family who barely earned money to feed themselves.
The day came when they didn't have anything to eat, not even to buy a bit of flour to make bread, so they started worrying because they thought the kids were gonna starve to death.
The stepmother thought there was only one solution, leaving them in the middle of the wood near the kings palace so that somebody would find them and take care of them.
Hansel and Gretel couldn't sleep, listening to this whole conversation. The girl started crying, but her brother told her there was a way for them to go back home,
since they'd rather starve with their parents, than live without them. The following day, their parents woke them up to go and collect wood.
They knew what was coming, so they took with them a piece of hard bread and on the way they left a trail of breadcrumbs. They had been walking for a long time, and they were very far from their house already.
