法国总统承诺5年内重建巴黎圣母院

BBC news with David Harper. The French President Emmanuel Marcon has promised Nortre Dame Cathedral will be rebuilt within 5 years,

and that will be more beautiful than ever. In a televised address, Mr. Marcon said he shared the pain and hope of the nation after the devastating fire.

The fire ravaged the cathedral's roof and caused its 19th-century spire to collapse. A 50 strong team has been set up to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Sudan's transitional military council has sacked the public prosecutor and his deputy, both of whom played a key role locking up government's critics and protesters

before the veteran President Omar al-Bashir was overthrown. Protest organizers are demanding a civilian-led administration.

Egypt's parliament has approved the constitutional change that will lengthen President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's term in office, and make it possible for him to stay in power until 2030.

An amendment that will give him more influence over the judiciary was also passed. The European Parliament has overwhelmingly approved the draft law,

which for the first time gives whistle blowers across the EU greater protection. The legislation shields them from punishment for reporting breaches of EU law,

and creates safe channels for disclosing the information. Polls are due to open shortly in the eastern regions of Indonesia, sprawling archipelago for presidential, parliamentary and local elections.

Ballot boxes have been transported across the country, using planes, boats and even elephants in some mountainous villages and communities deep in the jungle.
