When you walk in the room,do you have sway?

I'm Kara Swisher,and you're listening to "Sway."Facial recognition technology is everywhere.

A scan of your face can unlock your smartphone,let you into your building, or land you in jail for a crime you didn't commit.

And facial recognition is what Detroit police used to show up at the driveway of a man named Robert Williams and arrest him on suspicion of shoplifting.

Williams spent 30 hours in a detention facility,but when police provided photos, he didn't know who he was looking at.

I picked that paper up,and I hold it next to my face.

And I said,'This is not me.'

I'm like,'I hope y'all don't think all Black people look alike.'

And then he says,'The computer says it's you.'

It turns out computer algorithms aren't so infallible, particularly when it comes to facial recognition of minorities.
