Even in isolation, however, Clarkson remained just as busy, working on an upcoming album and taping remote episodes of both shows. "We've been in really close quarters, and it's been kind of nuts.

I'm not going to lie," she said last month before a virtual baby shower she cohosted with Carter's for expectant moms. "There's definitely some cabin fever going on. It's challenging being a working mom."

Through it all the couple kept the cracks in their marriage well-hidden. Late last year Clarkson made waves when she got candid about her sex life, saying the spark was far from gone.

"Well, Brynn, I was single for many years, so. . . I have children, and how one makes children is generally what I do before bed-that's not a lie," she told The Voice season 14 winner Brynn Cartelli during an"Ask Me Anything" segment.

Despite their physical connection, she and Blackstock "have been like friends for a while," says a music-industry source. "They have had a great relationship workwise and personally, but things change when you are as busy as they are."

With the demands of their schedules, "things had changed in their marriage, and the split was a while coming," adds another music insider. "They both work so hard. It's nearly impossible to enjoy each other, especially with the children needing constant attention."
