Jack This is a story by Joseph Jacobs. It is about a boy who doesn't think.

Jack likes sleeping all day. He doesn't like working.

His mother says, "Jack, go and work. Get some money so we can eat." Jack works on a farm. He takes his money home to his mother.

The money falls in the river. "Where is the money?" asks his mother.

"I don't know," he says. Jack's mother is angry. "Next time, put it in your pocket." "Next time, I will," says Jack. The next day, Jack gets some milk.

"Where's the milk?" asks his mother. "In my pocket," says Jack.

"Next time, put it in your hand." "Next time, I will," says Jack.

The next day, Jack gets a cat. He takes the cat home in his hands.

But the cat scratches his hands. "Next time, put it on some string." "Next time, I will," says Jack. The next day, Jack gets some meat.

He takes the meat home on a string. The meat is dirty.
