During the Spring and Autumn Period, the State of Wei was home to a highly respected official named Shi Que, who was renowned for his wisdom, integrity, and unwavering sense of justice.

At the time, Duke Zhuang of Wei showed great affection for his youngest son, Zhou Xu.

However, Zhou Xu grew up arrogant, aggressive, and obsessed with military power. He frequently acted recklessly, ignoring rules and proper conduct.

After Duke Zhuang's death, his eldest son, Duke Huan of Wei, inherited the throne.

Dissatisfied with his status and driven by a desire for power, Zhou Xu conspired with Shi Que's own son, Shi Hou, to stage a coup.

Together, they assassinated Duke Huan and usurped the throne of Wei.

Once in power, Zhou Xu ruled the state with cruelty and oppression.

The people of Wei lived in fear and misery, hoping that someone would eventually rise to remove this tyrant and restore peace to the kingdom.

When Shi Que learned of Zhou Xu's crimes, he was faced with an agonizing dilemma.

Zhou Xu was a member of the ruling family whom he had once tried to guide, and Shi Hou was his own beloved son.
